New Directions for Veterans offers a wide array of services including substance abuse treatment, counseling, remedial education, job training and placement, as well as parenting and money management classes. Legal and tax assistance are available, as is an active aftercare program and resources for alumni. Veterans leave NDVets with a savings account, housing, a job or other income, computer skills, renewed self-confidence and the support of mentors and peers. Such a transformation takes hard work, motivation and accountability, but the results are life altering—and for many veterans, life-saving.

Guided Group Discovery and Self-Guided Discovery:
Guided Group Discovery (GGD) is a strategy that assembles small groups of up to 10 job seekers committed to an employment search. Led by one or more trained facilitators, job seekers are guided through a process of self-exploration and offered an opportunity for peer support that is often very beneficial to job seekers, especially people who may be struggling to find employment and may otherwise lose motivation to stick with the job search over time. As with a more traditional job club model, Guided Group Discovery provides the added benefit of networking and feeling less alone in the job search process.

Benefits and Other Support Resources
Community Care
Veterans may be eligible for care through a provider in their local community depending on their health care needs or circumstances, and if they meet specific eligibility criteria. Even if a Veteran is eligible for community care, they generally still have the option to receive care from a VA medical facility. In most cases, Veterans must receive approval from Veteran Affairs (VA) before receiving care from a community provider to avoid being billed for the care. VA staff members generally make all eligibility determinations for community care.
